The Art in Everyday Things

About this Event

Sketching and Painting Workshop Led by Lisa Tompkins

Celebrate the quiet beauty of ordinary things in this gentle, reflective workshop inspired by Brighton artist Sally Smith, whose still-life paintings honour the stories held in the simple, familiar and everyday objects.

We’ll begin with a short talk and presentation about how everyday items can spark memories and emotions. Then we’ll move into hands-on exploration as you;
  • Discover beauty in the simple and familiar
  • Play with shape, and arrangement
  • Sketch from life using objects that matter to you
  • Start your own small “still life book of memories” celebrating the things you love

Please bring a meaningful item, nothing special, just something familiar: a mug, a trinket, a flower, a piece of jewellery, or any object with a quiet story attached.

‘Art often hides in the things we touch every day:
The pattern on a cup, the curve of a bowl, the colours of home,
the objects we keep for reasons we can’t always explain.’

Join us to slow down, notice more, and sketch what matters.
The beauty is already there; we simply learn to notice it.

All materials included.
Ticket price includes a sketchbook, perfect for continuing your creative journey.
