About this Event

Led by Aruna Reddy

Discover the slow, meditative pleasure of tapestry weaving in this colourful, hands‑on taster session with artist and weaver Aruna Reddy, who has been practising and exhibiting her work for over 20 years.

Aruna’s approach to tapestry is playful, experimental, and deeply tactile. She works with everything from wool and mixed fibres to handmade cordage created from plants such as cordyline leaves, sedge grass and maize, and often incorporates techniques from macramé, crochet, knitting and embroidery. Her inspiration comes from the world around her, walks, museums, conversations with other makers, and her work celebrates curiosity, colour, and the joy of materials.

In this relaxed introductory workshop, you’ll learn the basics of tapestry weaving and create a small woven piece to take home. Using your pre-warped looms, Aruna will guide you through:

  • Exploring plain weave and beginner tapestry techniques
  • Playing with colour, texture and mixed fibres
  • Creating a small woven sample that reflects your own style

This is a gentle, welcoming session designed to help you slow down, enjoy the process, and discover the calming rhythm of weaving.

This workshop will appeal to beginners and anyone curious about trying tapestry weaving in a friendly, supportive environment. No experience is needed, just an interest in colour, texture, and making something with your hands.

You’ll leave with a finished woven sample, a grounding in simple tapestry techniques, and the confidence to continue experimenting at home.

All materials are provided.
