Talk about the connections of art within spying.
Best-selling author Denise Beddows returns to Southlands by popular demand to talk about the use of art in espionage.
Her talk, The Art of Spying reflects on the uses of art & design historically in espionage, artists arrested as suspected spies during wartime. It covers everything from Baden-Powell’s nature drawings hiding maps of enemy gun emplacements in the Boer War, to the attraction of numerous spies and traitors to an award-winning modernist block of London flats, to the use of abstract art as a propaganda weapon in the cold war.
