This Sashiko workshop, led by Suzanne Strachan, is a type of traditional Japanese embroidery or stitching used for the decorative and/or functional reinforcement of cloth and clothing. Owing to the relatively cheap nature of white cotton thread and the abundant nature of cheap, indigo-dyed blue cloth in historical Japan, sashiko has a distinctive appearance of white-on-blue embroidery. However, some decorative pieces may also use red thread. It utilises a simple running stitch to create patterns. Suzanne creates a relaxed atmosphere into which you can simply sink and enjoy. No prior experience is needed.
All materials required, including fabric cuts, sashiko threads & needles and usage of sashiko stencils and fabric markers will be available for use. There is a small charge of £5 per person for these supplies. Teas, coffees and a biscuit too are included. This workshop must sell five tickets to run.
